BIKINI SHOPPING GUIDE: KIINI + TRIANGL

Bikini season is upon us; even though it’s only April, I felt that this topic be covered ahead of time so we can all prep accordingly – and by prep, I mean start your search for which one you will be buying this year {if you don’t already have it}!

I will first say, that by living in Canada, I definitely do not wear Bikinis as often as I would like, but there is a plus side to that {believe it or not}! Since I don’t wear them out as much as I would if I wore them often, I have nothing stopping me in buying more “exclusive” bikinis, which of course are more expensive. Since I don’t wear them as often, they basically remain in brand new condition for years – so, it’s worth it!

So, which bikinis are on my radar and which ones would I recommend? Well, there actually aren’t many, but the few that I will discuss in this post, you can be sure are great choices and that the information is coming right from my heart.

TRIANGL – POPPY PEACH SODA

Most of you probably remember when TRIANGL bikinis hit the market a few years ago – everyone had one {original or recreated by another brand}! These bikinis were hot commodities! I wan to say that this hype has died down a bit recently, but that doesn’t mean that the brand has stopped creating fantastic products!

I got my first TRIANGL in 2015, as a birthday gift from my husband. I’ve taken it on every vacations so far, and it’s still in perfect condition! The colors have not faded, nothing has stretched or shrunk; I literally have nothing had to say about it! Of course, I care for it like I would a baby – I store it in the original packaging, never wear it in a jacuzzi, rinse it out and leave it to air dry after any pool use, and hand wash it only.

I’d like to say that any style you choose from the brand you will be satisfied with;  but since I’m being entirely transparent, I’ll say that I have only ever tried on the XXX model, so I really don’t have any experience with the other ones. Although, based on how great this one is, I’d think it’s safe to say that no matter which one you pick you will be in love with it right away!

In terms of sizing, I would say that this bikini fits true to size, but it’s important to keep in mind that due to the style, the pieces do provide more coverage all around so if you want some extra room, maybe go a size up?

Price wise, the Poppy Peach Soda Model is currently priced at $89. I’m not too sure about discounts for this brand, but it’s always good to keep an eye on the site just in case something comes up!

KIINI- LUNA

After the TRIANGL hype started quieting down, the KIINI appeared in front of me; pure love overtook me right away when I saw the cut and details of the pieces! As with many things, I took my sweet time in making my purchase of this bikini, and I just bought my first one a month or so ago!

The KIINI is very different from the TRIANGL. For starters, the bikini bottom is MUCH more cut out; allowing for a better tan and more comfort {in my opinion}. The detailing on the bikini is insane! Everything is hand sewn, the elastics so carefully threaded through the weaved string; I can’t get over it.

Seeing as there is so much detail and delicate structure to this bikini I definitely recommend hand washing only, rinsing after every use right away to avoid that chlorine smell and damage, and avoiding the jacuzzis and hot tubs.

In terms of sizing, I would say definitely follow the size chart that the site offers – I’ve heard some say that the sizing runs small, but I guess it really depends how you want to wear it; coverage wise. I tried on both a medium and a large bikini top and the only difference I found was the length of the elastic, so if you’re looking for more coverage, this may not be the bikini for you.

Currently, the pricing for the Luna bikini top is $165 and for the bottom it’s $120. If you’re not in a rush to buy one now, keep an eye on the website as they sometimes offer discounts on specific styles.

KIINI – SCOOP BACK MAILLOT

After my first KIINI arrived in the mail, and I tried it on, I knew I’d be hooked! Since, like I mentioned earlier, I don’t really wear bikinis enough to own a few pairs, I decided I didn’t NEED another two piece so I set my focus on one pieces! I think the last time I wore a one piece I was 9, so this was going to be interesting.

The research for this one piece KIINI has started, I’ve browsed all the possible hashtags and social media pages, blogs, and articles about these bikinis, and I’ve had the chance to physically try one on. True to my assumptions, it was perfect and I will definitely be buying this one in the near future! {unfortunately the boutique which I tried it on at didn’t have an assortment of sizes and I wasn’t too into the ones they had}.

The one piece Scoop back Maillot is $315. As I mentioned above, if you’re not in a rush to buy one now, keep an eye on the w site as they sometimes offer discounts on specific styles.

DESIGNER DIARY SERIES: CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN

The saying “once you start, you can’t stop” can be related to so many different aspects of our lives, from chocolate to shopping and beyond. In my case, it pertains to both, unfortunately.

After I made my very first designer handbag purchase, I felt like I was the luckiest girl in the world; I was so proud of myself of the theory I had created, and the success it had brought me. I knew that with this kind of four step process, I could be making designer purchases every year if I wanted to. Don’t get me wrong, I did not lose myself after this purchase, btu quite the opposite, I gained confidence that an average person is capable of having nice things, if they follow a set of realistic rules and guidelines.

So, here we were, April  2015, five months to go, and the crazy wedding planning is in full swing. My wedding dress has been purchased and is being sewn, my hair and makeup has been decided on, my jewelry has been picked out; so what’s left? THE SHOES. Ah, shoes, one of my favourite words.

My maid of honour and mom have have been asking me non-stop about my choice of footwear for the day. My mother, being the classy lady she is, insists on a pretty pair of classic white Manolo style heels. My maid of honour on the other hand, knows that I’ve been talking about a pink of powder blue pair; just to stand out a bit. My fiance, who sits quietly and listens to me go on and on about shoes and handbags on a regular basis, isn’t even asking me, he knows what I want before I even know what I want sometimes.

Nevertheless, I still cannot make up my mind. All I know is that I want these heels to be special; my wedding shoe has to say something about me, stepping into this marriage on the right foot. It’s now July, and at this point I have tried on a range of, Manolo Blahniks, Jimmy Choo’s, you name it, with no luck. Finally, it hit me. All my life I have been amazed with the beauty of Christian Louboutins, why not make this my wedding shoe? BINGO. Now, the challenge becomes, which model and colour. I want something simple and classic, but also something I will be able to walk and dance in all day.

Here we go, research, research, and more research. If someone looked at the text message conversations between my maid of honour and I during this time, all they would see would be photos of Christian Louboutin heels – that’s how we communicated, until I finally settled that I wanted the PINK PIGALLE PUMPS. Of course, not one store in the province of Ontario had this exact shoe in my size. Just my luck. After searching high and low, I finally decided that I would pick out a different pair and that would be that. This is not a huge deal, and I’ll be okay.

But, my story doesn’t end here. It’s now August, and my fiance takes off on his bachelor trip to Chicago. The night before he leaves, I start thinking, should I ask him to check for my shoes in Chicago? No, I can’t do that to him, it’s his bachelor trip, what kind of fiance would I be! The thought crosses and leaves my mind. I’ll be fine with a different pair.

While he’s away, I’m browsing online, searching for shoes. I finally settle on a pair of sparkly silver heels, and decide that’ll be my wedding shoe. Cute and shiny, and not just a simple plain white pair. I feel okay with the decision, but am still deep down wishing that I could somehow land those Pink Pigalle Follies –  Christian Louboutins.

Two days later, my fiance returns from his trip. He’s the kind of man that always brings me back something from his trips, so when I get home that afternoon, I find him and a Saks Fifth Avenue bag sitting on the couch waiting for me. My mind starts racing; did I tell him about soemthing I wanted a Saks, what could he have purchased there? He opens the Saks bag, and pulls out a pretty brown Christian Louboutin box; JAW DROPPING TO THE FLOOR. WHAT IS IN THAT BOX. I lift the lid as gently as possible without showing my true emotional need to literally rip it off, and there they are; my PINK PIGALLE FOLLIES CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN WEDDING PUMPS!

OMG Marry Me! Oh wait, you are! I am overjoyed and literally start crying. Naturally they are both out of the box and on my feet in an instant; they’re perfection! To top it off, they look absolutely amazing with my outfit of the moment; black running shorts and a neon green sports bra.

So, maybe this story doesn’t tick off all the boxes of my process like the Chanel bag did, but I did do my research, and I did try on hundreds of style to make sure I knew which one I really wanted. To this day, I cannot believe that my fiance spent a chunk of his bachelor weekend running around Saks Fifth Avenues and Nordstrom’s looking for my PINK Christian Louboutins.

My dear Louboutins took me from day to night on my wedding day, and I only took them off near the end of the reception when the dancing started. They now sit comfortably in my closet, boxed up neatly in their red shoe bags, waiting patiently for our five year wedding anniversary. I have worn then a few times here and there, but I can’t bring myself to wear them too often; they feel too special and more of a sentimental item than actual footwear anymore.

YOU DO YOU: BE YOURSELF!

Relaxing on one of these lounge chairs after a facial, I had some time to reflect on a few things that I’ve had on my mind recently. One of the major ones being, that people are being driven by social media “norms” more and more, and therefore, causing them to lose sight of themselves, their opinions, and their own individual ideas. So, instead of relaxing and NOT thinking in this “Relaxation Space” my mind was spinning with thoughts… and so this is where it led me…

It’s incredible how influential social media can be – of course this works both ways, both in a positive and a negative manner. It’s great to see what others are doing with their lives; what they are buying and wearing, where they are traveling to, etc. Social Media is one of the strongest forms of inspiration and motivation, when used correctly! For example, I find a lot of my outfit, travel, and blog content inspiration on Social Media BUT that’s just it, it’s JUST inspiration! I don’t think it’s okay to mimic someone’s Instagram page style and format – like, isn’t that considered a form of plagiarism! I’m not here to call anyone out, but it’s pretty weird when your mom lets you know that someone is copying you on Instagram… “she just posted XXX, didn’t you just post that last week”. Yes mother, I definitely did JUST post that. The distinction between inspiration and plagiarism is clearly not evident for this person; shame on you. That’s not okay.

The point of this post is not to point out the {hopefully} obvious, but to speak about the importance of YOU DO YOU. Yes, there is a book with that title, I haven’t read it, I’m assuming it’s in line with this post, but I am in no way relating to it here. The fact here is, if you feel inspired by someone’s post, recreate it with a personal touch – maybe ASK them for some advice or tips on how they build their content – there’s many ways to get your creative juices flowing if you’re stuck in a creative rut!

What worries me, really is the fact that Social Media content is losing its uniqueness, basically because of the above mentioned type of people. Social Media outlets are meant for showing off YOURSELF; your talents, interest, life, etc. I’m sure it’s different for everyone, but personally, I don’t see the point of having a Instagram page for example, if you’re just going to post other people’s ideas.  The idea is to share with the world {your friends, families, other people with similar interests who will find you through PROPERLY USED hashtags} your creativity! I love coming across a unique page;it’s usually fairly clear to distinguish between a page on which someone takes care and passion in a post, and a page where someone just posted someone because they {almost saying} felt they should. There’s no SHOULD POST in this game, you post because YOU want to express yourself, not because you think you have to because others are doing it.

Through this post, I hope to inspire you to DO YOU! Show yourself off! We all have an incredible amount of creativity and it’s all so unique! The world WANTS to see that! So START SHARING your original ideas and content; even if they are inspired by others; that’s a great place to start! But, never lose track of yourself in this social media world!

GREETINGS FROM SUNNY ARIZONA

H E L L O  A R I Z O N A!

On Thursday morning we landed in Phoenix, for a few days of fun and sun in the deserts of Scottsdale. So far, I have fallen deeply in love with the climate and environment of my surroundings here – especially the Cactus plants, which I simply can’t get enough of.

The first thing we did after arriving at The Phoenician Resort (after unpacking and brunching) was go exploring. We started with then Cactus Garden on the property, and were mesmerized right away! Within seconds we were surrounded by hundreds of different types of cactus plants, overlooking majestic mountains in the background.

In the garden, and all around the property, each of the different types of plants are labeled with a name and explanation of its type and origin. I’ve decided that cactuses are my type of plant, I have lost track of the amount of photos of them that I now have on my phone; I feel no shame. We don’t have natural cactus gardens in Canada and I want to remember this calming and regenerating experience forever!

I’ll admit, since Thursday, I have visited this Cactus Garden five times already; given it’s on the (long) way to our suite, I make it a point that we stroll down these paths routinely!

In terms of my outfit; simple and my favorite pieces. A classic canary yellow off the shoulder top, a high waisted black denim skirt, my new Michael Kors sandals, and to finish the look, Dior sunglasses! Casual, comfy, and chic, perfect for the desert!

Happy Saturday!
