List of the week: List the things that made you happy as a child.

This weeks weekly reflection forces us to push our thoughts back to our earlier days, and to what we can remember from then.

It’s interesting to see what made us happy as a child and compare it to what makes us happy now. Of course life teaches us many things, and our minds are more developed when we are older, but it’s still a fascinating comparison to make.

Happy Reflecting!

Everyone needs a vacation once in a while – big or small, a break from your daily routine is healthy for both physically and mentally.

Mentally, it’s so important to give your mind a break from your daily thoughts, and simply allow your mind to “STOP” thinking and just let go, relax, and go with the flow.

Physically, our bodies snap into an automatic rythum with ourdaily routines, so its very important to removeour bodies from that constant trance and loosen up a little.

We recently decided we needed a break from our daily routines, and it was time for a vacation where our body, mind, and soul could relax and just forget about reality for some time.

Naturally, the first place that comes to mind when I think of a place to relax is: M E X I C O! Within two weeks, we were on a plane heading south for paradise. We chose an adult-only, all-inclusive, five star resort, because literally all we wanted was to relax in the sun, swim in the ocean and pool, indulge in culinary creations, and sip on delicious drinks. We found all this wonderulness (and more) at the VALENTIN IMPREIAL MAYA in the Rivera Maya.

It was our first time at this specific resort, and we were absolutely amazed at how great it was – the service, the food, the atmosphere, it was all beyond our expectations. We definitely would recommend this resort to anyone looking for a Mexican getaway.

With time, I’ll post photos from the trip and a few of my outfit choices for the evenings and outings, as I basically lived in my bikini the entire week.

I could write all day about the details of the resort, but I’ll just leave this post open to questions – so if there is anything you want to know more about it, feel free to email me or post a comment below.

List of the Week: List the ways that you feel lucky.

This is almost another way of asking yourself why you think that you are blessed – and truly, there are so many reasons why I think we are all lucky in life, even if at a given moment in time we may think our world is crumbling. There is always going to be something that you want but can’t have, something that doesn’t go our way, or something that we aren’t happy about. Many of these life events are things we can’t always control, because they simply happen – not by our own decision-making.

I do believe though, we are able to control our happiness; to a point of course. We know ourselves and we know what makes us happy – now we just have to figure out to get ourselves there.

Feeling that we are lucky doesn’t have to be something drastic, something simple such as feeling lucky that your favourite snack was on sale at the grocery store, or that your shellac nail polish hasnt chipped after two weeks. Luck isn’t something we control, it’s almost like that extra cherry on top of happiness that adds a little bit of an extra jump to your step.

I also made sure to account for health and family in this list – two of the most important factors in my life; the building blocks of each and every day. Not only am I blessed, but lucky to have these two in my life – no matter how tough or rough situations can get, I will never take them for granted.

Happy Reflecting!

Springtime Celebration

Spring has sprung and I am absolutely thrilled about it! Spring is my second favourite season; after Autumn.

Springtime always feels so refreshing and allows us to start a truly fresh chapter during the year; as we put away the heavy winter wear and start taking out the lighter items; we clean out our homes and are able to open the windows and let the fresh breeze in; everything just seems lighter.

This year in my area, we are experiencing a nice transition from the winter into Spring – many years the temperatures have jumped drastically and we didn’t really have much time to enjoy true SPRINGTIME. The temperatures are sitting between a comfortable 15-20 degrees celsius, which is perfect as there is still a cool front coming through from the winter months.

I know I have been inactive on the blog for the last few weeks, but I feel like I will be able to come back to my regular schedule soon; as I really miss writing for THE PRETTIER LIFE. I have so many great ideas and information to share on the blog, and I’m looking forward to spending some time to write them all out on here.

Although I did not write a post about the week seven, eight, and nine weekly reflection, it doesn’t mean I didn’t do them – in fact, I managed to reflect on them a lot and was able to really write out my thoughts, which was great.

I’m sorry for not updating you on the three weeks lists earlier, but here they are now, so reflect away!

Week Seven: List the greatest compliments and encouragements you have ever been given.

Week Eight: List the things that you like to do that don’t involve technology.

Week Nine: List all of the little things that happened today that brought you joy.

Avocado oil on table close-up

The older I get the more I pay attention to the food I put into my mouth; and it’s not that I have to try, it just happens. For the past few years I have actually started to enjoy food and have become interested in the ingredients list on products.

I still find it hard to include more fruits and veggies into my diet though, so imagine how happy I was to find out that one of my favourite foods was actually a S U P E R F O O D.

Hello A V O C A D O and welcome to my diet.

The amount of proven health benefits that come with one of these little pear-shaped fruits is stunning – from various vitamins, to healthy fats, it’s loaded with great nutrients.

Not only is the avocado fun to peel; cut in half and twist out the seed, it can be eaten in so many different forms. My favourite form is freshly peeled and sliced on toast with salt, or diced into a salad with salted sunflower seeds.

Without even realizing all of the great benefits to avocado, my husband and I have also been using Avocado Oil for all of our cooking. I know the hype was all about the coconut oil, but I am here to say that I prefer Avocado Oil 100%. I think I love it more because there is no flavour to it really, and I am not entirely a huge fan of coconut.

So, do yourself a favor and google the health benefits to an avocado – and then add it to your grocery list for your next shopping trip!
